Welcome to the club Pete McGuinness

Latchford Giants ARLFC are happy to announce the addition of Pete McGuinness to the club as our chairman. Pete has been around the game for many years including still playing masters rugby league at Crosfields ARLFC and being a driving force to get more over 35s playing rugby league in the North West.

Pete Quoted
Playing: I’ve been involved in Rugby league one way or another from being 8 years old when my dad bought me my first season ticket at Warrington, I’ve been a season ticket holder there ever since. I started playing Rugby League when I was 15 in the under 17’s. I played my first open age game at 16 for the now defunct Thames Board and later for Leigh Miners during which time had trials with Wigan, Widnes and Warrington, never being quite good enough to sign. In 85 I then started Laportes and managed them to 2 league promotions until their eventual demise in 94 when the Sports Club was sold to David Lloyd. I then decided to give kick and clap a go at Warrington RUFC from 1993 to 2006. Still fit enough to play, in 2011 I was invited to play Masters Rugby League, one of the best decisions I ever made. I’ve played and captained Great Britain in Australia, played in New Zealand and toured France. I’m currently still playing and enjoying every minute of it.

Organisation:
Management skills started when I became a supervisor in 76 with Laportes. I have recently retired from the Jaguar Car Plant where I managed a team of 36 staff on a £3 million contract. Some 40 years ago, I was asked to join the Vice Presidents Committee at Warrington RL and eventually became Chairman in August 1990. The Vice Presidents Committee are hardened club supporters who fund raise solely for youth development. Since my involvement, the Committee have raised in excess of £450,000, all going to youth development. With that committee experience I was coerced into joining The Warrington Rugby League Management Board which promotes and helps develop all aspects of the 7 of Warrington‘s amateur clubs. In 2017 I was asked to join the Masters Steering Group who manage all aspects of the Masters game. I’m also Chairman of the Masters Disciplinary Committee.

Everyone would like to welcome Pete and we look forward to his positive input to the whole club.

We will have a full catch up with Pete in the coming weeks about what he wants to bring to the club and gain from being chairman.
