Tough away day

Tough away day

Matthew Wilkinson12 Mar 2023 - 23:55

Score line reflects an easy game but it was far from that, Woolston tested us from minute 1 and kept going till the final whistle.

Latchford travelled to Woolston to start there 2023 away campaign in their brand new smart kit and Woolston started strong forcing an error in the opening set and threw there big forwards to our line but the giants stood strong. The game went set for set but the giants completing there sets stronger even though they had a strong head wind. The deadlock was broke on the 10minute mark when pure class from Joe Delooze who collected a cross field Alfie Sherlock kick who weaved his way 40m to pass onto Tyler Brown who supported well and scored in the right corner (nearly running dead) Alfie Sherlock slotted the conversion 0-6.

Giants then completed well as they did all game and a confident Harry Hazell dominated the ball on the 4th tackle to back him self to score on the right hand side of the pitch, this all started from solid defence with good kick pressure meaning the giants started the set on the half way line, good solid run from Harry Taylor, followed by a solid 10m from Charlie Thomas, 15m from Oliver Holmes who set us up within 10m and Harry Hazell did the rest. Alfie Sherlock once again slotted the conversion. 0-12

HALF TIME SCORE
0-12

Giants started the second half well again pinning Woolston in there own 40m and catching the kick on the full with a fantastic kick return from Joe Delooze who was finally tackled on Woolston's 30m line. Latchford then built pressure but a little bit of white line fever kicked in when they could of just let the ball do the work, and Josh Daintith was deemed to be held up short but Josh and the lads around him said he got the ball down and on the day deserved a try for his strong carriers, On the last tackle Charlie Cooke was held short and we turned the ball over next to the post. Latchford ramped up the Defence and Woolston dropped the ball on play 2 in the resulting set Alfie Sherlock feed a 15m pass to the left side for Joe Delooze to score untouched. Once again Alfie Sherlock slotted the conversion 0-18

The game then went set for set for around 8minutes but Latchford were in control with Woolston struggling to make yards only breaking around our right edge once, but in the resulting set Jack Bowen had a scoot where he raced away 60m to score under the post for his 4th Try this year. This time Joe Delooze slotted the goal 0-24

Latchford got the ball back from the kick off and bulit presure on the Woolston line and a smart move from the Giants where the ball went through 4 pairs of hands to finally find Harry Hazell to cross for his second try of the game, Conversion this time was slotted by Tyler Brown 0-30.
